Academic Leaves of Absence
The University of California policies provide an array of opportunities for academic employees to meet family and work life demands. The information on the following pages outline leave options and processes for academic employees requesting a leave of absence.
Where to Start
Different offices on campus are responsible for processing leave requests. To expedite your leave request, please contact the appropriate office based on the type of position you hold or the type of leave you’re requesting.
The University only requires the minimum necessary information, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), to process a medical leave of absence. For your protection, please take care when sending your health condition in e-mail communications. The UC Santa Cruz email system is not encrypted, therefore, to communicate your leave request use as little personal health information as possible.
