What We Do
The UC Santa Cruz Academic Personnel Office (APO) oversees campus academic personnel processes for academic appointees in the areas of recruitment, advancement, leaves, compensation, and employee relations. We steward the Campus Academic Personnel Manual (CAPM) to ensure that such processes align with University of California policies, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable federal and state regulations.
APO supports the success of academic appointees in their contributions to research, teaching, service, and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education. We assist academic appointees needing leaves or accommodations to care for themselves or family.
In collaboration with Labor Relations, we interpret, implement and advise the campus concerning collective bargaining agreements covering academic employees.
We work closely with campus leadership and the Academic Senate on matters of academic personnel, including personnel actions and policy development. We also advise on matters of faculty conduct, conflict, and compliance.
We guide the campus on matters of academic compensation. We serve as the liaison to the local and systemwide UCPath and CruzPay offices on academic payroll matters.
We are the business leads for campus and UC-wide systems that facilitate academic personnel processes, and develop and deliver training to various campus constituencies to expand skills, knowledge and abilities.
Our services are complemented by many other offices on campus and at the Office of the President, including:
- Academic Affairs
- Benefits
- Disability Management Services
- Divisional Academic Personnel Offices
- Division of Graduate Studies
- Equity & Equal Protection (includes Title IX)
- Labor Relations
- Retiree & Emeriti Center
- Teaching & Learning Center

- UCPath@UCSC
Services for non-academic employees are provided by Staff Human Resources.
